Reading Night and March Mail

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Once again MARCH MAIL was an amazing success at Placentino!  Our Grade Two and Montessori Second Year students did a fabulous job collecting and delivering the mail.  Our entire school – students, staff…everyone! – spent the month of March writing letters to each other using our custom designed MARCH MAIL stationary and special stamps.  The sale of stamps (10 cents each) totaled $509.00 which will be donated to our Friends at the Holliston Food Pantry Shelf!  Placentino students wrote 5,090 letters to their teachers and friends. That is something to be very, very proud of!

Don’t forget!  Reading Night is Wednesday, April 9th, from 6:30-7:30 in the Placentino Cafeteria.  More information can be found on the Placentino Backpack Express.  See you there!

Our next Food Pantry Day is Thursday, April 10th.

No School on Good Friday, April 18th.

Spring Vacation will run from April 21-25.  We will welcome our Placentino School students back to school on Monday, April, 28th.

Happy Spring!

Mrs. Weene

This Week at Placentino – December 16 – 20

What a fun week it has been at Placentino!  With snow on the ground and vacation around the corner, the children have all been energized and very excited!

As many of you know, tuition-free Full Day Kindergarten for all students has been a point of conversation for our community.  Some of you may have watched the School Committee Meeting last Thursday evening as Dr. Jackson, Dr. Ahern, Mrs. Gleason and I presented our Full Day Kindergarten for All proposal to the School Committee, Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee.  If you would like to view the presentation, the slides are available on the Holliston Schools district website.  You might also be able to view it on our local cable channel. Providing Full Day Kindergarten for All will certainly be an important conversation that will continue through the next months.

Looking ahead to the month of January…

January 2  –  We will welcome the children back to school after our Winter Vacation Break

January 14 – Join us for a HEPTSA Meeting at 9:15 in the Placentino Cafeteria – All are welcome!

January 17 – NO SCHOOL for all children – It is a Professional Development Day for all Holliston Schools Staff

January 20 – NO SCHOOL – Observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 23 and 24 – Conference Days for PreK and K.  NO SCHOOL for PreK and K children on these two days

January 27 – Kindergarten Switchover Day for AM and PM Kindergarten only

January 28 – Preschool Information Night for Parents/Guardians who would like to learn more about our Integrated PreK and Montessori 3-6 Preschool Programs.  (Snowdate will be February 3)

Our Assistant Principal Susan Gleason, Student Services Administrator Carol Dicruttalo, and all of the Placentino School staff join me in wishing each one of you, our Placentino family, a festive holiday and vacation time and a Happy New Year!

This Week at Placentino: December 2-6

I hope everyone enjoyed our Thanksgiving break and long holiday weekend!

Placentino students CARE

Our Friends at the Holliston Food Pantry Shelf are so grateful for the kindness that Placentino families show with their generous and gracious donations of food and paper good items.  Thank-you so much!

CARE Information for our families.  Starting this week there will be two new trade-ins on our CARE cart that I wanted you to know about. The first is called a “High Five.”  If a student sees a friend showing CARE then he or she can acknowledge it by writing a simple description of the CARE that was observed and their friend’s name on the “High Five.”  The “High Fives” will be displayed in our Atrium for everyone to see.  We’re hoping to fill the columns in the Atrium with “High Fives.”

Children can also “trade-in” for winter/holiday coloring pages.  We will be donating the pages to local nursing homes, hospitals and the Holliston Food Pantry as a way of extending our CARE to others at this special time of the year.  Some children may choose to bring their coloring pages home and then return them to school.  We’re hoping to have lots of colorful pages to share!

Another relatively new trade-in on the CARE cart is our CARE Gram.  Some children have been trading-in their CARE cards for CARE Grams.  They write or draw a simple “caring” message on the CARE Gram for an adult at Placentino, and then it is “mailed” and delivered.  Again, some children may choose to complete their CARE Grams at home and then bring them back to school once they’re ready to be delivered.

As always, thank-you to all our families for your continued support of our CARE program and our Placentino School community.
