This Week at Placentino: November 18 – 22 “Feathers for our Turkey”

Feathers for our Turkey!  Placentino students support their friends at the Holliston Food Pantry!

In the spirit of “thankfulness,” Placentino students will be collecting items to be donated to our friends at the Holliston Food Pantry.  Each time a child brings in an item he or she will put a feather on the HUGE turkey in the Atrium.  Our goal is to cover the turkey with feathers by Thanksgiving and to collect lots of food (no glass jars, please) and paper goods for our Food Pantry friends.  Thank-you so much!

A Thanksgiving reminder:  Wednesday, November 27th, is an Early Dismissal Day for students.  Full Day and Half Day Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2 and Montessori 6-8 will all dismiss at 11:50.  PreK Dismissal will be at the regular time – 11:25.  There will be no PM PreK or Kindergarten classes.

Thank-you!

A “Colorful” Week at Placentino!

Wednesday will be Red Sox Spirit Day at Placentino!  Children may wear RED SOX colors (or the colors of their favorite team) to school.  We’re planning a Spirit Day Parade at the end of the day.  We’ll be marching around the school to the sounds of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” and other favorites!

Thursday is Halloween Fun Day!  PreK and K students will participate in our Pumpkin Parade and Singalong.  PreK and K Parents/Guardians should have received information regarding whether their child will be marching and singing in the morning or in the afternoon!

Grades One, Two and Montessori 6-8 can wear ORANGE and BLACK for our annual Halloween assembly.  We’ll sing songs with our music teachers Mrs. York and Mrs. Petersen and listen to some fun Halloween stories as told by our Librarian, Mrs. Ahern.  LOTS of fun for all!

This is going to be a very busy week at Placentino!

Halloween is next Thursday, October 31st.  Families of PreK and Kindergarten students are invited to join us for the annual Pumpkin Parade and Singalong!  Details and the times for your child’s class should have come home to you directly from your child’s classroom teacher.  We’re hoping for great weather so that we can “parade” outside and present our “singalong” in the Courtyard.

This Week at Placentino: May 27 – 31

Hello! Our “Word of the Week” this week has been “effort.”  During the last few weeks we have reviewed the four letters of the word CARE.  Our students (your children!) have completely embraced our CARE program in ways that I never imagined could be possible two years ago when we launched CARE at Placentino.

Acts of kindness and respectful behavior, taking care of each other and developing friendships, cooperating and working together are all part of each day at school.

Ask your child about the CARE River of Fish!  If you’ve been to Placentino recently you’ve probably noticed a “river of fish” that starts at the Office and makes its way around the school … down the main hallway, past the classrooms and is very close to reconnecting at the Office again!  The children have been “trading-in” CARE cards for the fish with the goal that they’ll be working together “cooperating” to complete the River.  We have scheduled an All-School CARE Party for June 10th to celebrate together!  Placentino students are the best!

Are you still looking for some summertime fun for your child?  Holliston Community Education is offering a week long summer math and science program for students entering grades 1-6.  The Club will meet at Miller School the week of July 8 from 8:30-3:00 each day.  Registration is now underway!  Please check BackPack Express for additional information regarding the program or register at http://www.clubinventionNE.org.

The heat…we do our best to keep the children cool while they are at school.  On hot days, please send your child to school dressed in light clothing.  I suggest a hat for the playground as well.  You might also want to send a water bottle marked with your child’s name. Hopefully this last stretch of the year won’t be too hot and we’ll all stay as comfortable as we can while we’re at school.

Our Montessori Multi-Cultural Evening is tonight.  It’s a wonderful family celebration of dance and music!

Looking forward to the excitement of these last few weeks of our school year!                   Mrs. Weene
