This Week at Placentino: February 4 – 8

Our “Word of the Week” this week is healthy.  During Monday Morning announcements I reminded the children how important it is to wash their hands frequently during the school day;  after they use the bathroom and at snack and lunchtime.  I also asked them to please remember to “cover your coughs and sneezes” by coughing or sneezing into your upper sleeve or elbow if you don’t have a tissue.  This is the time of the year when children and adults suffer from colds and the flu.  Hopefully these reminders will help keep our school “healthy” all winter long!

The Parent Information Night for Parents/Guardians of children who will be coming to Placentino as Kindergarten students in the fall will be held tomorrow night Tuesday, February 5th, at 6:30 in the Placentino Cafeteria.  We will be welcoming the Class of 2026 to our school next year!

The FY14 Budget process has officially begun.  I encourage members of our parent community to stay in touch with the process by watching up-coming School Committee meetings on local cable (the next meeting of the School Committee is Thursday night, February 7th, at 7:00) and by visiting the Holliston Schools District Website often.  Presentations that our Superintendent, Dr. Jackson, makes at School Committee are posted to the site so that members of the community can stay current in the process as it evolves through the next few months.

Last week our Grade Two students were treated to an excellent Culture Connection theater presentation about Helen Keller.  The children were attentive and respectful listeners and participants throughout the hour long presentation.  I was very proud of all of our Grade Two students.

Science Fest is coming to Placentino and Miller School on Saturday from 10-2.  This is another opportunity to come back to school and enjoy some family fun and learning together.

Check out our HUGE snowman in the Atrium.  Each time one of our students brings in a donation for our friends at the Holliston Food Pantry Shelf they can place a snowball on the snowman.  We’re going to try and cover the snowman with snowballs before our next Food Pantry Day which is on Thursday, February 14th!

Have a great week!

Mrs. Weene
