This Week at Placentino: January 28 – February 1

As I sit at my desk watching the snowflakes fall…please remember to send hats, mittens, snow pants and boots to school each day for outside play.  Unless it’s too cold or too icy on the playgrounds we will be going outside for fresh air and exercise each day.

My “Word of the Week” this week is “cooperation.”  Cooperation (working together) is the “C” word for the letters of our CARE program.  During Monday Morning announcements I reminded the students about how important it is to “Cooperate” and work together with everyone.  Two students shared a message and reminder to us this morning to “turn off the lights in our classrooms” when we are at recess, lunch, or out of the room for some other reason.  These students reminded us that there is a connection between energy conservation, global warming and protecting the polar bear population.  It was a good reminder for us all!

Report cards for Grades 1, 2 and Montessori 6-8 will be sent home in backpacks on Friday.  Mid-year reports give us a snapshot of a student’s performance as he/she transitions to a new grade level and begins to build on the skills that were learned and acquired the previous year.  Remember a report card is only one measurement of a child’s success.  Is your child happy coming to school each day?  Does he or she seem socially comfortable with his/her peer group?  Social and emotional growth are very important parts of the healthy development of all young children.

The Kindergarten Information Night for Parents/Guardians of in-coming K students will be on Tuesday evening, February 5th (snow date is the 6th) from 6:30-8:00.  The presentation will include information regarding the programs that are available for students who live in Holliston, brief overview of the registration process and an opportunity to meet our K teachers and view the classrooms.  We will be welcoming the Holliston Schools Class of 2026 to Placentino next fall!

Family Fun!  Join us on Saturday, February 9th, for Science Fest!  The event is held in the Placentino/Miller Cafeteria areas and is lots of fun for all!

Have a great week!
