The “Word of the Week” this week is: polite. During Monday Morning Announcements, I reminded the children that we use “polite words” with our friends and teachers at Placentino (in the classroom, cafeteria, on the buses, playing on the playground…wherever we are) and also when we are at home with our families. Some of these words are, “please, thank-you, hello, good morning.” This links perfectly with our CARE program and showing kindness for each other.
I encourage the children to use kind and polite words throughout the day with “challenges” such as “Mrs. Weene’s Good Morning” challenge. Then, during announcements, I share with the children how many of them have greeted me with “Good Morning, Mrs. Weene” when I’ve wished them a good morning. It’s amazing how that number has grown since I began the weekly challenge two years ago!
As you know, the front doors of Placentino are now locked after the children arrive in the morning. These doors stayed locked throughout the rest of the day. To enter the building you need to use the “buzzer” that is located to the left of the doors. A receptionist or a member of our Office Staff will ask you for your name and reason for wanting to enter the building. Visitors who enter will need to stop at the desk to show a picture ID and “clear” before immediately heading to the Office to sign-in and obtain a Visitor’s badge.
Our PreK Open House for new students (not currently enrolled) will be held on Wednesday evening, January 16th, from 6:30-8:00 in the Placentino Cafeteria. This program is designed to provide Parents Only with an overview of the preschool programs that are offered at Placentino.
Looking ahead…next Friday, January 18th, is a Professional Development Day for our district. It is a no-school day for all Holliston students.
Have a great week!
